To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf Review – Unraveling the Depths of Humanity
To The Lighthouse is a book that has been written by Virginia Woolf. The book is divided into three different parts which are The Window, Time Passes and The Lighthouse. In the first part i.e. The Window, we are introduced with Ramsey family and their guests at summer home in Hebrides. There is not much of action and it mainly explores the characters, feelings as well as thoughts. The 2nd part covers a decade which includes WW-I and death of some of the characters. The remaining Ramsey family members gather at their summer home once again with a plan to visit the lighthouse.
To The Lighthouse deals with the deep questions about life and the thoughts of the characters are expressed in a very personal as well as intimate way. The story of this book shows how people usually struggle to understand one another, plus it explores the themes of time passing as well as the transience of life. The lighthouse depicted in this story serves as metaphor for privacy, distance as well as protection of life. This book has got loads of complicated layers of meaning and it reflects Virginia Woolf’s interest in the scientific theories especially thermodynamics.
On a conclusive note we can say that To The Lighthouse is a classic novel of English literature that explores the complexities of the human life as well as the relationships while exploring different themes and scientific influences.
