Russian Roulette by May Freighter Review – Dark and Addictive
Russian Roulette by May Freighter is the first book in the gripping Helena Hawthorn series. The story revolves around Helena Hawthorn who is very thrilled for starting a new chapter in her life by shifting with her two friends in order to make her college commute simple and easy. She has a guardian angel, Michael, watching over her all the time she feels like nothing bad will ever happen.
But things started to become complex when Michael took Helena to Angel Realm where her soul connected with that of Lucious who is a vampire on the run, trying to avoid his fate. This connection takes Helena in to the dark world of vampires. In this world she is unsure to whom she can trust and she has to rely on her own strengths. As she is fighting against the vampires who want to control her, the story unravels with astonishing intensity.
I was spell-bounded by this book right from the start to the end, leaving me in awe and eager for more after each chapter. It is an ideal book for the ones who like darker themes. Helena is in the world which is dark as well as intriguing and it shapes by the decisions that she makes to protect her friend. Throughout the novel helplessness is the protruding theme and as Helena dives deeper in the world of vampires, the violence and tension rise, keeping the readers on the edge of their seats.
The author, May Freighter has brought hope as well as light in the darkest moments very skillfully. Despite not coming up with the best of the decisions, Helena always takes responsibility for her actions. All in all, Russian Roulette is a gripping and very well-crafted book that will attract the readers who enjoy the dark fantasy stories. The story-telling skills of the author are commendable and Helena Hawthorn makes it and memorable and appealing read.
